In whatever goal you're trying to achieve - if you're giving it 110% efforf there won't be any time to worry about failure!
And one of my favourite quotes: Failure doesn't mean you are a failure... it just means you haven't succeeded yet. ~Robert Schuller

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator' for August 4th 2011
In my thirty years as a freelance cartoonist I've had my fair share of overcoming obstacles, setbacks and disappointments and I'm sure there will be lots more before I hang up my pencils. The trick is to take it in your stride and bounce back when you've been knocked for six - for when you say you've had enough and you quit you're finished. Leaving the way open for someone else to take your place and maybe the prize!

Cartoon of guy who has fallen down while trying to climb his way up a mountain to success.

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator' for July 14th 2011

Today we look at one of my biggest phobias - Fear Of Heights. I miss out on bungee jumps, going up skyscrapers and going on scenic mountain walks. I suffer from breathlessness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, shaking, heart palpitations, inability to think clearly, a fear of dying, becoming mad or losing control, a sensation of detachment from reality or a full blown anxiety attack...and that was just while I was drawing the cartoon!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator' for July 6th 2011

As I'm sure you're aware you need to keep Health and Safety
at the forefront of everyone's mind 24-7 whether it's in the home or at work.
Health and Safety cartoons can illustrate serious messages
in a light hearted way.
Most organisations primarily use the cartoons as posters,
usually on a regular basis. In this way, employees are informed
of ongoing safety issues. Consider safety cartoons via emails,
training materials, Powerpoint presentations and calendars(They're
in front of them everyday of the year!)

Remember, save one accident and any cartoon you commission
will have paid for itself a hundred fold.
Health and safety cartoon - Cartoon of guy talking to alien with space ship outside building - alien has numerous eyes. Guy says

Today's subject is the College/School of hard knocks. To be a success at anything you have to take some hard knocks. If you're not taking the knocks chances are you're a failure who's backed off or quit. Here's some of my favourite quotes and a Sid Gatt cartoon strip...

I, on the other hand, am a fully-rounded human being, with a degree from the University of Life, a diploma from the School of Hard Knocks, and three gold stars from the Kindergarten of Getting the Sh*t Kicked Out of Me
~ Rowan Atkinson

The school of hard knocks is an accelerated curriculum
~ Menander of Athens

If you can learn from hard knocks, you can also learn from soft touches.
~ Carolyn Kenmore

Credit is due to Thomas A Edison for the above quote. Here's some of my other favourite quotes for the great man...
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Be courageous. I have seen many depressions in business. Always America has emerged from these stronger and more prosperous. Be brave as your fathers before you. Have faith! Go forward!
Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.
I never did anything by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work.

Self limiting beliefs - cartoon strip. Motivational cartoon strip of boy band who are lacking in self belief. First frame:

Here’s a few self limiting belief quotes that might change your perspective…
What you believe is what you achieve. You become what you affirm: positively affirm your greatness, genius and fullest potential - Mark Victor Hansen

The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it. - George Bernard Shaw

A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done. – Vince Lombardi

SO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOUR ABILITIES!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for April 28th 2011
I had to send back my invite to William's and Kate's wedding because of the pressure of work.
I'm afraid WORK comes first with me!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for April 14th 2011

Belief in success is the one basic, absolutely essential ingredient in successful people.”
Believing something can be done sets the mind in motion to find a way to do it.

“Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.
all quotes by David J Schwart

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for April 8th 2011

You have to ask yourself - how badly do I want success? Would I be prepared to climb that high?(If I was scared of heights?) I know how badly I want success - I think of nothing but it all day long!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for March 31st 2011

With the holiday season coming up this week we're looking at 'keeping fit' and toning one's body and mind...
"To feel 'fit as a fiddle', you must tone down your middle."
Author Unknown

"A man's health can be judged by which he takes two at a time -
pills or stairs." Joan Welsh

"Exercise alone provides psychological and physical benefits.
However, if you also adopt a strategy that engages your mind while you exercise, you can get a whole host of psychological benefits fairly quickly." James Rippe, M.D.

Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while
movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it. - Plato

To be successful, you must dedicate yourself 100% to your training,
diet and mental approach. - Arnold Schwarzenegger

The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body. The more
efficient your body, the better you feel and the more you will use your
talent to produce outstanding results. - Anthony Robbins

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five
miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where
the hell she is. - Ellen Degeneres

I'm off to the gym - 'til next week...

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for March 24th 2011

This week we look at 'OBSTACLES' that get in the way of your success. Here's a few of my favourite quotes:

Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal. Henry Ford

A burning desire can overcome all objections and obstacles.

Press on. Obstacles are seldom the same size tomorrow as they are today. Robert H. Schuller

The obstacles you face are... mental barriers which can be broken by adopting a more positive approach. Clarence Blasier

An excuse becomes an obstacle in your journey to success when it is made in place of your best effort or when it is used as the object of the blame.
Bo Bennett

A lot of people give up just before they're about to make it. You know you never know when that next obstacle is going to be the last one.
Chuck Norris

Fear is your greatest obstacle - so question your fear. If it does not serve your greatest life then do not make it your master.
Joy Page

I don't really think in terms of obstacles. My biggest obstacle is always myself.
Steve Earle

Nothing is an obstacle unless you say it is.
Wally Amos

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for March 11th 2011
Today I'm concentrating on one of sports all time champions...Muhammad Ali!
Here's the top ten quotes of 'The Greatest' :

10. Age is whatever you think it is. You are as old as you think you are.

9. At home I am a nice guy: but I don't want the world to know. Humble people, I've found, don't get very far.

8. He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.

7. I never thought of losing, but now that it' s happened, the only thing is to do it right. That's my obligation to all the people who believe in me. We all have to take defeats in life.

6. I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark.

5. What keeps me going is goals.

4. It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.

3. I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.

2. I hated every minute of training, but I said, "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."

And the most thought provoking one...

1. I figured that if I said it enough, I would convince the world that I really was the greatest.

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for March 4th 2011
This week I'm looking at 'goal setting'...
"A goal properly set is halfway reached." - Abraham Lincoln

"The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment." - Earl Nightingale
"You have to set goals that are almost out of reach. If you set a goal that is attainable without much work or thought, you are stuck with something below your true talent and potential." - Steve Garvey
"Goals give you more than a reason to get up in the morning; they are an incentive to keep you going all day. Goals tend to tap the deeper resources and draw the best out of life." - Harvey Mackay
I'm just off to reset mine so I can go and fill up my mega thirsty 4 x 4!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for February 25th 2011
This week we'll have a look at 'criticism' - I always try to refrain from being critical when my wife is doing something I don't want to do! Here's a cartoon that was born out of a recent decorating project - along with a few of my favorite quotes...

Sandwich every bit of criticism between two thick layers of praise.
~ Mary Kay Ash
Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain.. and most fools do.
~ Dale Carnegie
Don't let anyone say you can't do it.
~ John Ilhan

And my favourite...Never criticize your spouse's faults; if it weren't for them, your mate might have found someone better than you! ~ Jay Trachman

'Here's the fax, LIVE LIFE TO THE MAX!'

If you're going to make the incredible effort to be born, then why not live your life to the MAX. It makes sense, doesn't it? Why do it half shod? Why only let the throttle out half way? Put your foot flat to the floor, spin the wheels, burn some rubber and let loose with a 'Yahoo' as you tear up the road in your supercharged hot rod of a life that is yours to live. Too many of us try to play it safe and at the end of the road we find ourselves trapped in self-imposed security. But you know and I know that there's only one life to live, so let's LIVE it.

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for February 9th 2011

Sorry, I totally missed last week's issue. I could blame it on the pressure of work, I could blame it on having a new bouncy labrador dog that kept me busy all week - but I think I'd better own up and say it was procrastination! I know I should know better but I let it get the top side of me. So what better subject to work on this week than 'procrastination'. Here's a cartoon and some of my favourite quotes...

"Do you know what happens when you give a procrastinator a good idea? Nothing!" Donald Gardner

So what do we do? Anything. Something. So long as we just don't sit there. If we screw it up, start over. Try something else. If we wait until we've satisfied all the uncertainties, it may be too late. Lee Iacocca

"If and When were planted, and Nothing grew." Proverb
“Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the “someday I’ll” philosophy.” Denis Waitley

'Your INPUT will determine your OUTPUT, so guard what you PUT IN and you won't be PUT OUT!'
Take particular care as to what you allow to enter both your ear and eye gates. For what you allow to pass through here will determine what comes forth from your mouth and will be demonstrated through your actions. It will determine what fills your mind and will ultimately influence your destiny. Imagine having a sentry on guard twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Choose to avoid certain places, switch channels on the television and refuse to be bombarded by unwanted visual or verbal stimuli that is not healthy for your ongoing personal development. Say 'no' to the mediocre and only 'yes' to the excellent..

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for January 14th 2011

Our minds are an extremely powerful tool, and as you may have heard before, we only use a small portion of it every day.(Sid Gatt uses even less than that!)
Positive thinking has a great impact on your life. So we must do our best to keep thinking that way. If you find yourself having a negative thought - STOP yourself immediately - and change it to a positive one. Another way, is to surround yourself with positive people and stay well clear of negative ones.(Sid Gatt springs to mind again!) Associate with people who make you smile/laugh and bring positive energy into your life. See you next week!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for December 17th 2010
This is an extract from a book "Smile Your Way To Success' that I collaborated with Peter Sinclair on...

'HAPPY PEOPLE use what they have and start where they are in the pursuit of their DREAM.'

For years I lived my life waiting for the 'one day' to kick in. After nearly ten years, when that 'one day' still hadn't arrived, I decided that it was probably time to really start to enjoy life. My children were growing older and my years weren't being reversed. So rather than waiting for that illusive day, I decided to start to live my life to the full. I made a decision to enjoy every moment, while still focussing on my dream. In an instant, happiness replaced anger. Fulfillment replaced frustration and life became a pleasant experience. I analysed my strengths, discarded my weaknesses and then strengthened my strengths through practice. And as the song says, 'Don't worry, be happy!'

The UK is suffering the worst snowy period I've ever experienced in all my 39 years.(Ok, ok...in all my 56 years!) The severe weather conditions are costing the economy billions as the country's workforce has been unable to make it into their day jobs. I've put together some 'snowy/Christmassy' cartoons that might add some Christmas cheer to your site. I've partnered with http://www.instacommerce.net/seasonal-website-banners who can add cartoon banners etc to your website. They specialise in developing websites for small to medium enterprises using CMS or eCommerce solutions. Even the usually hard to please and miserable Sid Gatt would be happy with their services.

I'm usually trying to motivate you to do something - well this week is slightly different in that I want you to circulate this around especially as Christmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and
that you need to contact them on an 0906 number (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed a ton of money for the phone call.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely. ~Roald Dahl

I'm not sure about Sid Gatt but my philosophy on life is - Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day.

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for November 12th 2010
This week we look as 'making excuses' - I know I make excuses, even as I write I'm thinking of one to get me out of going down to the gym! (I'll probably go - it's just that I feel a bit tired so early in the morning.) Here's a few quotes I found while out looking for inspiration for this cartoon...
Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure. ~Don Wilder and Bill Rechin.
No one ever excused his way to success. ~ Dave Del Dotto
How strange to use "You only live once" as an excuse to throw it away. ~Bill Copeland

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for November 5th 2010
Problems!? You have to remember that sometimes the solution is right there.(Maybe even under your nose!). It's just that you too busy to look and listen. DON'T be too busy to hear people out!

Here's your 'Midweek Motivator for October 27th 2010
This week we have a look at the subject of 'Continuous Improvement'. I personally liked this quote from Kim Collins....Strive for continuous improvement, instead of perfection.
As a global company, our future growth and success requires that we constantly look at ways to improve our ability to serve customers worldwide.
Steve Ballmer

My Comfort Zone - A Poem
Author Unknown

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you're in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!

Just a reminder about LIFE:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"
